Parade of New Products for Waters At Pittcon

Teilen:

At this year's Pittcon when scientists ask Waters booth staffers, What's new?, they aren't going to walk away empty-handed. Waters is using the occasion of the analytical instrument industry's largest annual trade show to unveil a portfolio of new products. Pittcon 2002 is being held March 17 - 22 at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, LA. Waters is exhibiting instrument products in booth # 2751 and chemistry products in nearby Booth # 2765. Exhibit hours are Mon. Thurs., March 18 - 21, from 9:00 - 5:00.

New Chromatography Software Product

It's Waters biggest software launch since Millennium in 1992. Waters is introducing Empower Software to Pittcon show-goers. This software is a powerful and flexible chromatography software package that extends the functionality of Millennium®32 software by aligning product features with the skill level of operators - from the occasional user to everyday user.

Waters Pat Martell says, Empower Software is our response to what customers all over the world tell us are the new requirements for chromatography software. The ingredients that made Millennium32 software the market leader in separations, compliance, and results analysis are structured in Empower Software so that a scientist can feel at ease the first time they run samples or process data. Also, in an era of heightened attention to security, compliance and data integrity, Empower Software is structurally-validated and delivered as a complete package, as opposed to other systems that add functionality by installing new software.

Automating Methods Development

The product of a collaboration with LCResources (Walnut Creek, CA), this new LC system incorporates DryLab® Plus Chromatography Modeling Software from LCResources, which together with Waters new Empower Software can significantly reduce the time it takes a scientist to develop new HPLC methods.

In as few as four runs, this photodiode array based system can zero in on the set of HPLC conditions optimal for resolving the analytes in a given mixture. Scientists can develop a typical reversed-phase C18 method in a day when it used to take seven or more. Once a method is developed, it can be validated on the same system using the ELSA32 Methods Validation Software or System Suitability options for Waters® Empower Chromatography Software.

The system hardware includes Waters 2695 Separations Module, the backbone of Waters Alliance® HPLC Systems, the company's 2996 Photodiode Array Detector, an Empower workstation and a chemistry kit containing four different types of Waters chemistries.

New Chemistries for Polar Compound Retention

Waters is introducing a new line of silica-based HPLC columns that exhibit superior retention of polar compounds and can operate in 100% aqueous mobile phases. The Polarity reversed-phase C18 columns are for drug discovery, development, isolation and purification scientists in need of a column to separate polar molecules that are under investigation as drug candidates. These columns are mass spectrometry-compatible and available in a full range of sizes from analytical to preparative scale.

What's New in LC/NMR?

At Pittcon 2000, Waters and Bruker announced plans to work side-by-side to pair the techniques of liquid chromatography and NMR. Pittcon 2002 marks the first year the companies will debut a full-fledged instrument solution. Bruker BioSpin is introducing the Capillary LC-NMR system, a new hyphenated analytical system, pairing capillary liquid chromatography with NMR detection. The combination dramatically increases the sensitivity of this hyphenated technique allowing for low nanogram detection. At the same time, solvent and sample consumption are reduced.

The Capillary LC-NMR system comprises a Waters CapLC® System, with a ternary capillary-scale pump, capable of delivering flow rates of 1-40 microliters per minute, the Waters CapLC 2996 Photo Diode Array Detector, and autosampling capabilities. The output of the CapLC System is connected directly to the NMR detection, consisting of a Bruker BioSpin AVANCE NMR spectrometer and a Protasis/MRM CapNMR (Marlborough, Mass.) probe. The system is fully automated under the control of Bruker BioSpin's hyphenation software Hystar. The Hystar software controls both the Capillary LC and the NMR, and enables one to use the PDA output for intelligent peak selection. This means that only peaks of interests can be subjected to NMR analysis, while minor or unimportant compounds can be directed to waste.
