Basic training course Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy


Target group:

Scientists and engineers from industry and academia who want to develop or consolidate a basic working knowledge in Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy. An understanding of basic chemistry and physics is requisite.

Course description:

Nowadays Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) is very popular, as it is a non-destructive and meaningful measuring technique. It becomes very comprehensive in the characterization of materials, surfaces or electrochemical processes. Typical applications are:

  • Energy storage and conversion (batteries, fuel cells, solar cells, electrolysis)
  • Sensors
  • Electrosynthesis
  • Corrosion research and characterization of coatings

The aim of this course is to give a practice- and application-oriented introduction to EIS. Special emphasis is laid on consolidating the knowledge in practical workstations.

Course Content:

This course provides the theoretical and practical knowledge that you need for running EIS experiments, evaluation and interpretation of EIS data. The information is conveyed step-by-step during the two-day course and is applied and illustrated in practical experiments:

  • Theoretical basics of electrochemistry and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy
  • Measuring technique and instrumental know-how
  • Setting-up and running impedance measurements
  • Data visualization (Nyquist- and Bodeplot) and data analysis
  • Application examples
  • Best practice and troubleshooting
  • Hands-on training and demonstration experiments
