Expert Biotransformation Process Development (m/f/d)

Who You are:

  • You have a PhD in Organic Chemistry or Biochemistry
  • Track record of excellent scientific knowledge and research experience in synthetic and preparative organic chemistry and several years of experience in biocatalysis, biotransformation or chemoenzymatic synthesis
  • You have a good knowledge of instrumental analytical methods (HPLC, GC, MS, NMR)
  • In addition, knowledge of classical molecular biology techniques is desirable
  • You are distinguished by a digital mindset - first experience with data visualization tools and computational approaches is a plus
  • Very strong collaboration skills, including a high level of personal commitment to build up relationships across functions seeking input from others on ideas and problem-solving
  • You are self-driven, highly motivated, capable of quickly adapting to changes and have the willingness to challenge the status quo
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills complete your profile
  • Fluency in English, German is a plus

Your Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • You lead scientific projects with focus on the development and optimization of new enzymatic processes towards the implementation of industrial biotransformations in multi-kg scale including product downstreaming
  • You independently plan, coordinate, conduct, evaluate, document and present the scientific progress of the project(s)
  • Moreover, you perform scientific experiments with clear objectives partly independent and partly with the support of qualified laboratory technicians maintaining high compliance in the laboratory safety and research documentation
  • You actively contribute to new concepts connecting automation and digitalization with standard laboratory processes assuring the application of cutting-edge software tools and solutions
  • Furthermore, you collaborate in interdisciplinary project groups in close alignment with chemists, biologists, analysts, and engineers across Bayer R&D and manufacturing organizations as well as with external partners
  • You ensure scientific and technological excellence in the synthesis of active ingredients by maintaining contemporary knowledge of relevant primary literature and science outreach in biocatalysis and synthetic chemistry
  • You coach, mentor, supervise and develop laboratory technicians and students when assigned
