Senior Scientist Protein Biochemistry Focus Purification / SPR (m/f/d)


Who You are:

  • Highly motivated personality with PhD in biochemistry, chemistry, biology, biotechnology or related field and long-term leadership experience
  • Strong knowledge and theoretical and practical experience of protein expression, purification, and modification techniques
  • Experience in surface plasmon resonance (SPR) analytics, especially for biologics and related SPR-based assays is of advantage
  • Knowledge (e.g. target biology) in Bayer's key disease areas (cardiovascular, oncology, metabolic diseases)
  • Ideally broad experience in biotherapeutics research in a (biologics) drug discovery environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, outstanding analytical thinking
  • High degree of commitment as well as ability to take action for continuous improvement
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken combined with excellent communication and presentation skills

Your Tasks and Responsibilities:

Bayer is looking for a highly creative and motivated biochemist/chemist/bio(techno)logist (m/f/d) to join Bayer's Biologics Research Department (BR) within Drug Discovery Sciences, Wuppertal, Germany. You will be part of an interdisciplinary team of highly skilled scientists within the R&D organization and contribute to the discovery and engineering of innovative protein therapeutics. Located in the Protein Science Group, you will closely collaborate with colleagues from Biologics Research, Pharmacology and Early Research within Pharmaceuticals R&D in Germany and the US. In detail, you will:

  • Be responsible for the production, modification, and on-time delivery of high-quality proteins (antibodies, bi- and multispecifics, Fc-fusion proteins, recombinant proteins) using state-of-the-art internal capacities or coordinating external CROs
  • Use your expert knowledge as well as hands-on expertise further to develop the lab and team in the field of protein science to stay cutting-edge including the optimization of existing as well as development and establishment of new workflows that cover the protein expression, purification, and analysis
  • Interact with a team of highly skilled lab technicians, bench scientists and scientist in the field of protein biochemistry and surface plasmon resonance (SPR) of biologics
  • Contribute to our digital agenda by optimizing workflows and generate and analyze data in collaboration with AI/ML experts to foster in silico experimentation
  • Use your expertise in biologics approaches, drug discovery, and disease areas (cardiovascular, oncology, metabolic diseases) to represent Biologics Research on cross-disciplinary global teams that propose, manage, and drive internal therapeutic research projects or external collaborations
