Associate Scientist, Biochemistry (m/f/d)



  • MS in biochemistry, biotechnology, cell biology, or any other molecular biological or relevant biomedical science.
  • At least 3 years of relevant research and/or pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry experience.
  • The successful candidate will need to effectively work both as part of a team and as an independent scientist.
  • Ability to test many different and developing molecular and assay technologies in diverse scientific areas, both at low and high throughputs.
  • Deep hands-on experience with and a solid theoretical understanding of protein expression in bacterial and mammalian cell systems.
  • Proficiency in various protein purification techniques, such as affinity, ion exchange and size exclusion chromatographic approaches.
  • Protein characterization techniques, such as SDS-PAGE, Western blot, ELISA, and analytical HPLC.
  • Experience in subculturing of mammalian cell lines requiring aseptic techniques (such as proper biosafety cabinet operation).
  • Hands-on experience with and a solid theoretical understanding of modern molecular biology and nucleic acid cloning techniques.
  • Familiarity with AKTA purification and HPLC systems is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Pro-active mentality.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain inventories of equipment, supplies, and related research materials.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Experience with and understanding of biochemical and biophysical binding assays (e.g. TR-FRET, FP, SPR, BLI).
  • Experience implementing automation and liquid handing into protein expression and purification processes.
  • Experience with next generation sequencing technologies and/or data analysis is a plus.
  • Proficiency in flow cytometry analysis of engineered and primary cells (6 colors or more) is a plus.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Expression of recombinant proteins in E. coli and eukaryotic (predominantly mammalian) systems.
  • Purification of proteins from eukaryotic cultures by affinity, ion exchange, and size exclusion chromatographic techniques.
  • Design and management of DNA constructs for protein expression, purification, and assay development purposes.
  • Develop and optimize cellular expression systems (e.g. E. coli, mammalian cells, insect cells, and yeast).
  • Development of biochemical and cell-based assays to assess TCR binding and functionality.
  • Establishing and cultivating stable mammalian cell lines expressing various biologics.
  • Design, generation, and production of lentiviral constructs and reagents.
  • Labeling (e.g. with biotin or fluorophores) of purified proteins to generate reagents for downstream assays and applications.
  • Maintain cell lines for downstream applications.
  • Improvement of current processes/protocols and development of new technologies.
  • Analysis and presentation of results to larger scientific groups in the company.
  • Productivity both as part of a team and as an independent scientist such that milestones are accomplished against timelines.
  • Keep a very well documented electronic notebook.
