Scientist - Biologics Research Assay Development (m/f/d)


Who you are

  • PhD in biochemistry, cell biology, in vitro pharmacology or a related discipline with long-term experience
  • Expertise and proven track record in the discovery of therapeutic antibodies and proteins in a Biotech and/or Pharmaceutical industry environment
  • Several years of relevant theoretical and practical experience in the development and use of relevant assays (cell signaling, FACS, RT-PCR, cell culture techniques, etc.) with extensive experience in the cultivation and characterization of primary cells
  • Ideally a strong background in immunology, oncology and/or cardiovascular disease biology
  • Excellent organizational skills and a high level of team spirit
  • Strong leadership ability along with a high level of assertiveness
  • Ability to challenge the status quo and to embrace change paired with curiosity and a passion for research
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken, with excellent communication and presentation skills

your Tasks an Responsibilities

  • Lead an assays laboratory within the Biologics Research Group tasked with the development and validation of biochemical and cell-based assays at Bayer's "Biologics Research" center for antibody discovery and protein engineering in Wuppertal, Germany
  • Evaluate innovative disease targets and characterize protein-therapeutic candidates that address them, including determining their modes of action
  • Represent Biologics Research on cross-disciplinary teams that propose, manage and drive internal therapeutic research projects or external collaborations
  • Play an active role in proposing and evaluating new therapeutic target opportunities or biologic modality opportunities and play an expert role on the committees that manage and shape our biologics portfolios
  • Continuously ensure our exploitation of state-of-the-art assays & platforms for target validation as well as mechanistic evaluation of therapeutic antibodies and proteins
  • Guide and develop technical staff in their assignments
  • Work in close collaboration with an extensive network of scientists within the department and across Bayer to drive our portfolio of product-oriented research programs
